Being FAT

Faithful, Available, and Teachable

We cannot impart what we do not possess.
— Chip Ingram
I urge you, then, be imitators of me. That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.
— 1 Corinthians 4:16-17
  • Being faithful in our ministries and serving encompasses 3 areas:

    1. Faith in Christ

Now this is the most obvious one when it comes to being faithful. As ministers of Christ we want to be faithful followers of Christ. This includes growing in our knowledge and love of Jesus, following Him in our public and private life, and knowing and living out His ways. The key thing for a minister, is that they take personal responsibility for their growth in their faith. They don’t require someone else to feed them (although that is pretty nice), but they pick up the fork, cut up the steak and start eating.

    2. Consistent

Another key element about being faithful, is being consistent. Another word for faithful is “trustworthy.” Someone who is faithful is someone who can be trusted to do what they said they would do. Chip Ingram puts it this way, “Faithful people are the ones who complete an assignment, who actually take care of a problem when they say they'll take care of it, and who call you later because they promised they would.” Faithful people show up, and get it done.

    3. All In

The last component of being faithful is about being “All In.” A faithful person is one who is bought into the common mission to “Help people discover a life changing relationship in Jesus, and develop as His follower.” They also know the specific vision on how they do that in their ministry area, and they go all in and are committed to making that happen.

Putting is all together

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
— Proverbs 12:1
